Beth Ellyn Rosenthal is the The Lady of the Night Out (dubbed "The Lady" by fans, she is singularly qualified to review restaurants because she has been eating all her life. The fact that she can spell boeuf bourguignon doesn't hurt, either. A serious student of international economy, the social infrastructure of pasta farmers, and the third world health paradigm, The Lady graduated from Yale in 1974, and later from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. As classmates discussed futures as investigative reporters, it was evident The Lady's talents were a shoe-in for restaurant reviews - being the only one who could eat anything on a menu without assuming the girth of a parking structure. While fellow graduates are still working their tails off exposing the latest political scandals, The Lady and her crew dish about the best - and worst - places to eat in Las Vegas. Obviously a wise move. "Only 43% of the voting public voted in the last election," quipped the The Lady, "but everybody eats!" "You do the math - whose reporting is really more relevant?" "Besides," continues The Lady, "when those other reporters are out there digging through some senator's trash, trying to get the goods, I'm sitting in a cozy restaurant, nibbling on the most exquisite appetizers and getting ready to tell the rest of the world about what the food is really like at this week's 'in' restaurant!" The The Lady of the Night Out has been reviewing restaurants and food for a long time. First in New York, where people actually understand good food, then in Dallas, where "cuisine" was usually a vague reference to charred cow. In addition to reviewing restaurants, she pioneered wine writing in 1980, and worked crush every fall in Sonoma County, California as part of her enological education. The The Lady of the Night Out is a "Dame de la Chaine" in the Las Vegas chapter of the Confrerie de la Chaine des Rotisseurs, a professional food society started in France by medieval chefs in 1248. Contrary to rumor, she was not a charter member! She's written two cookbooks, "The Meltdown Diet and Cookbook" (1991) and "Dallas Eats" (1981). We are happy to report she is still good at eating!
