Here's Where It's Happenin'!Rain In The Desert
The club recently opened on November 15th to a star-studded bash; attendees included Samuel L. Jackson, Robin Leach and others - and the place is still going off like a frog in a sock. Like most great places, the line starts stretching back from the door early; officially the club opens at 11:00PM. There are three or four big guys dressed in black guarding the door, but the door policy isn't brutal. Once you get past them, you walk down a long hall into a futuristic narrow walkway that leads to one of the largest clubs I have seen in Vegas (management says the club fits 1,500 people). The truly amazing part about Rain is the space itself: the club is multi-storied, with at least five different bars (so getting drinks is easy) and it has the latest in sound, lights and style. The dance floor, which is adorned with bamboo, is raised in the middle of the club and surrounded by a "moat" of trickling water and computerized fountains. The massive lights above the dance floor, which look like they are rock concert quality, swing up and down as you dance and even shoot out fire, which is pretty cool to see as you are dancing and feeling the vibes. The music is predominantly hip hop, spun by a DJ high above the dance floor. Seating is aplenty at Rain as well. There are several seating areas on all sides of the dance floor which are not reserved for VIPs, which is rare in Vegas. There are also tables that can be reserved and private cabanas on the third level can be rented for a price of $300-$400. These cabanas are large rooms with curtains to provide the utmost privacy. The rooms, furnished with booths, can fit eight people easily. There is also a VIP skybox section on the very top level of the club for the well-connected. One of my favorite spots at the club is at the third level bar, where you can look out over the Strip - the place has great views of the Rio and Bellagio. On this particular evening I stood sipping a drink looking out as the moon hung low over the Strip. It reminded me of Club Palladium in Acapulco over Spring Break, where partygoers looked out huge bay windows to watch fireworks over the Bay of Acapulco. This time the fireworks were happening inside the club at Rain and it felt like a Spring Break atmosphere. So, if you are in the mood for that type of evening, you will love Rain: and plan on dancing until the wee hours of the morning. For what's Young N' Happenin' on Night Out Las Vegas, this is Awesome Austin Rosenthal! Later!
